  2. Could this be a case if "leading with your chin"? If you go into known cartel territory and buy a big ranch, it shows you have money . You might be "leading with your chin" the cartel is probably going to target you. Not saying the cartel has the right but it is just the way it is here. Just my opinion

  3. I have lived here for 12 years exactly the way I want to and have not been a crime victim. Mexico is what it is in all its beauty and horror. You learn and blend in or you make a big splash and the sharks circle. Mexico is not going to change one whit because some foreigner stomps his foot and says “I’m leaving!” This guy had a very bad experience but Mexico has no pity. Suck it up and stay or pack up and go. Mexico does not care.

  4. A photographer on vacation in Orlando was inside a church taking photographs when he noticed a golden telephone mounted on the wall with a sign that read '$10,000 per call'. The American, being intrigued, asked a priest who was strolling by what the telephone was used for. The priest replied that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 you could talk to God. The American thanked the priest and went along his way. Next stop was in Atlanta . There, at a very large cathedral, he saw the same golden telephone with the same sign under it. He wondered if this was the same kind of telephone he saw in Orlando and he asked a nearby nun what its purpose was. She told him that it was a direct line to heaven and that for $10,000 he could talk to God. 'O.K., thank you,' said the American. He then traveled to Indianapolis , Washington DC , Philadelphia , Boston and New York . In every church he saw the same golden telephone With the same '$10,000 per call' sign under it. The American, upon leaving Vermont decided to travel up to Canada to see if Canadians had the same phone. He arrived in Canada , and again, in the first church he entered, there was the same golden telephone, but this time the sign under it read '40 cents per call.' The American was surprised so he asked the priest about the sign. 'Father, I've traveled all over America and I've seen this same golden telephone in many churches. I'm told that it is a direct line to Heaven, but in the US the price was $10,000 per call. Why is it so cheap here?’ The priest smiled and answered, 'You're in Canada now, son ... it's a local call.'

  6. When I posted that I had these dishes for sale " I have 2 huge Dish TV dishes on top of my house if anyone wants to make me an offer!" you asked: "Gringohombre, I am interested. How large are the satellite dishes and are they only C band capable or will they also work with the higher frequency Ku signals?" I then responded: “These were installed by an Ajijic company (well regarded...cannot remember the name) 12+ years ago using an address in Brooklyn NY to create the "legal" Dish TV account. Worked well for many years (except in the rainy season) and the rate for basic TV slowly increased to US$80 a month until ditching for the streaming app service about 6 - 8 months ago. One is maybe 10' diameter and the other maybe 4' (was told this one was for HD reception). Have no idea about the technical questions you are asking” You then responded: “Great, it sounds like one is 2.4 meters in diameter and the other a 1.2 meters in diameter Ku band satellite dish . What is the dollar amount we are talking about here, for each?” I then sent you photos and other information and you said: “Thanks for the pictures. I'm pretty sure you are wrong about the diameters . I am guessing that the larger one is 2.4 meters and the second one 1.6 meters in diameter. So what are we talking about dollar-wise here?” I then asked you to PM me an offer and THIS IS YOUR RESPONSE? You are such a phony…please do not waste my time anymore!!!

  7. All this about a low profile is all well and good, however, it doesn't change the main issue, which is you cannot live the way you want in safety for fear of being a crime victim because in this country there is no rule of law.

  9. I agree. Don't come in here buy a huge house or property then give big money to the community. That is very thoughtful but stay low profile and enjoy the simple life. Quietly help those in your neighborhood .

  10. They probably upgraded your service area to VDSL and your old ADSL modem can't work at the higher speed. You might be able to leave it at the Telmex office, toss it, sell it, or keep as an inferior but functional backup. . No one seems to care .

  11. I was told that at 60, it is half price. No INAPAM needed (?); But that did not apply to me, so I can not say. There are no longer any questions. Just 10 signs to ID with three choices each. Good Luck.

  12. $696 is right unless you have an INAPAM.

  13. There are fresh blueberries available at nearly every fruit stand and vegetable market at one time or another. They range from 35 pesos for small and not too fresh to 80 pesos for organic.

  15. The regulation says "Nonresidents/visitors may import a vehicle duty-free for personal use up to (1) one year if the vehicle is imported in conjunction with the owner's arrival" I have crossed into the USA with many vehicles that were not mine. All I had was a notarized letter giving me permission to drive the vehicle. Only one time have I been asked at the border if the vehicle was mine. I said it belonged to the company I worked for. Never asked for proof. So based on many crossings border agents don't know the rules. Or possibly because there are tens of thousands of Mexican plated cars crossing every day it just isn't important who is using the vehicle or why. Driving in the US with Jalisco plates I have been stopped twice by state troopers. Never asked any questions about the legality of the vehicle. (There is no document issued by customs regarding the vehicle so it would be impossible to prove the vehicle's legality.) The only problems are based on state residency. Every state has a rule about the need for residents to register an out of state vehicle within a set period of time. An accident or traffic stop might trigger that time clock if you hand them a license for that state or tell the officer that you live in that state. An accident with a licensed driver, currently registered vehicle, and valid insurance would not give cause for a policeman to try to contact customs regarding the legality of the vehicle.

  16. On July 7th Alfara announced that a shutdown of the economy would be imposed if these thresholds were exceeded: 50% Hospital Occupancy 400 Cases per million inhabitants (weekly incidence rate) On July 7th, the stats were: 26% Hospital Occupancy 290 Cases per million Yesterday Alfaro posted the stats for the shutdown criteria as of July 18th. Jalisco remains well under the criteria for a shutdown.

  22. My problem with the location was it being across the street from the previous restaurant he sold to a couple whenhe was sick and needed money. Then he gets better and comes back and opens up across the street. “Ta-da! Bobby’s back! Forget that old Roberto’s place across the street.”

  25. I've been in every country in Central America and all of western South America. There is not another place that suits our needs quite like this area. We have lived in San Miguel de Allende and I lived in Patzcuaro. I have been in 26 different states of Mexico. Always with an eye out for potential living or retirement. The combination of elements that exist here does not exist anywhere else that I have ever been. If you feel like Ajijic is too much like "gringolandia" then consider places like San Nicolas or Santa Cruz or even Jocotepec. Same weather, proximity to Guad and airport, four hours from the best beaches in Mexico, and Ajijic amenities within a short drive. It can depend on your comfort with the language. There is crime and corruption in all of Latin America as well as in many places in the US. Some folks just love South Texas, Florida, or Arizona. Not our choice though. Half of the fun of expat living is exploring your options...something that much of the world just does not have the luxury of doing. Alan

  26. Hola, So I think I might finally be getting somewhere with No Antecedentes Penales Federal. I have been calling weekly to Mexico City, no answer! I also sent all the required docs to the appointment email. No answer! A couple weeks ago I asked a notary to help with getting this document. She is getting somewhere! She forwarded an email asking to send all my documents and they will get it done in short time. Hopefully very soon! I think Mexico city must be answering professional people before replying to the public. So if this is done...then I can go for my test (I hope) I had an email from the Colima office, and everything in Colima is still suspended. My question to those of you living in the Guadalajara area, do you know if Citizenship is operating in there? Do I need an appointment? I would like to get this done, I have been studying for the exam for so long! I can't stop studying or I will forget everything! Thanks again for any advice on this!
