  1. A little amplification - the article was not meant to downplay the need for masks in appropriate circumstances. The article was published on April 1, 2020. The authors followed up with an editorial comment on June 3, 2020 stressing that article's emphasis on "passing encounters in public spaces, not sustained interactions within closed environments". It begins with "We understand that some people are citing our Perspective article (published on April 1 at NEJM.org)1 as support for discrediting widespread masking. In truth, the intent of our article was to push for more masking, not less. " and concludes with "We therefore strongly support the calls of public health agencies for all people to wear masks when circumstances compel them to be within 6 ft of others for sustained periods." https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2020836.

  2. Once again, you are asked not to use this thread to prosthelytize. This is for fun. We need more fun and less preaching. Thanks.

  5. Confirmed at Walmart today. They have large boxes of them at the ends of two aisles between the toy section and the hardware section.

  6. What is the name and / or generic name of the medication? Don't assume it is not available - a lot of things are "available" readily, even that local Dr's do not know about. Post it and you may be surprised at what you find out. And the timing needed - people are flying back and forth and perhaps someone can carry it down.

  9. WE found the same thing with Walmart -- the 80/20 is disgusting ! We could not buy it anymore. Tried to form patties and it stuck to my hand like glue. We now go to Tony's butcher shop in SAT and much happier and worth a few pesos more. Even get the sirloin ground up in front of us there and about 140 per kg.

  11. Typed too quick. Etzatlan. Not just a town but a municipality as well. Guinness record: The largest crochet canopy measures 2,832.98 m² (30,493.9 ft²) and was achieved by Maria Concepcion Siordia Godinez (Mexico) in Municipio Etzatlan, Jalisco, Mexico, on 4 October 2019. (in one of the pics) Was where the RR spur ended to pick up the silver from one of the largest silver mines in Mexico. Home for many years of archaeologist Phil Weigand who excavated Guachimontones. Nice museum near the square displaying shaft tombs, Museum in the train station as well.

  15. Censoring someone's opinion or experience isn't the issue. It's when someone presents themselves as some sort of expert and makes claims that aren't backed up by any legitimate scientific studies or peer reviews that it's dangerous to put the information out there publicly. Presenting anecdotal evidence isn't a problem if it's just using something that is innocuous and can't harm you even if it doesn't work, like using tea tree oil on a fungus infection, or baking soda on something. But pushing pharmaceutical medications, which could have dangerous side effects and would be contraindicated if you might be taking other medications, or have certain medical conditions, is something that has to be checked for scientific accuracy before being presented to the public. That's not censorship, that's making sure people don't harm themselves.

  17. The real key here is social distancing. Health professionals are almost forced to be within 6 feet of others for sustained periods. The rest of us are not. Particularly when I see so many masks of ineffectual materials not worn properly out there I don't set much confidence in that measure. I focus on keeping my distance and making that considerably more than 6 feet, more like twice that.
