  1. Geringohombre, you are absolutely WRONG. It is a TRUE and ONGOING FACT. I am insulted by your rash judgement. The only thing fake is your response.

  2. Thanks for the door bell info. I have one and I use it. I also have three cameras; one pointed to the front gate. To access the cameras I must turn on the TV and turn it to camcorder which takes too long so I depend on my front door camera bell which is, of course, activated as soon as the bell is pushed. I never answer the gate unless I recognize the person ringing the bell. My partner always answers the gate when he is home. Mostly the bell ringers are children running up and down the street ringing people's bells. 😊 This morning we went to INE (Instituto Nacional Electoral) in Jocotepec to see if we couldn't get the perpetrator's National ID Card cancelled. A very friendly gentleman at the desk said that their office could not do that but after he heard about the problem he gave my partner a phone number to connect with someone higher than the local office who might be empowered to act. That number sends us to FEPADE (Fiscalia Especializada En Delitos Electorales). Fingers crossed. Thanks to the poster for the bank info. Indeed I recognized that the "bank" in question was one of the non-banks that he mentioned--though bank is in its name. I added the minutiae about the INE and FEPADE for the poster who questioned my veracity. A big thanks to my friends who posted and to all who called out the poster who called this all into question. There is no fake news here!

  5. Not identity theft but address theft. Don't leave your CFE or TelMex bill lying around when having visitors over. INE won't cancel her card simply because of a wrong address. If the person's old IFE card and CURP are correct that is all they care about. A person can move 10 times in the ten years an INE card is valid. No one else can interfere with anyone elses' proper ID for any reason on a whim.

  6. You accuse the OP of posting a made-up story (the same thing as calling him a liar), with no proof whatsoever, and don't see that as insulting? What planet are you from?

  7. I just re-read Chapters 1 and 2. I don't see it as "fake news", but if someone is looking for an excuse to be insulting, he/she can usually find one. The question is why?

  8. These students have no money and they are there to learn a trade and become useful citizens with a skilled trade. The volunteers can't watch them every minute. I am a maestro, you are not. I don't blame anyone there. I have broken my tools from time to time. This is not NOB where students do have money. Your comment is unwarranted.

  9. I also know the OP very well and I know the suspect in question and I believe every word the OP says. Gringohombre is alone on that "hill" as the poster Kam put out.

  10. Why don’t you prove it is not true since you are the only one coming up with this bul**hit denial? You are making the accusation so the burden of proof is on you. There is no rule on this board that every poster must provide proof that what they post is true. If there were you’d be in a world of hurt. You are being ridiculous, obnoxious, and pathetic.

  16. Apparent rip off! So, the Scotia ATM has a new screen. After entering the desired withdrawal amount you are presented with a screen essentially showing how much the pesos will cost in your home currency and are given the choice of accepting the conversion rate or declining it. I had read about something like this in the past and seemed to remember that accepting the conversion rate was a very bad option. I tested it and guess what, exactly right! If I accepted the rate it would have cost me $110.75 for 1400 pesos! I declined, still got my 1400 pesos and when I checked my account on line the debit to my account was 100.65 an effective exchange rate of 13.93. So, be forewarned! Always decline the offered exchange rate!

  17. Been there many times over the last few years. I have eyes and ears but not the equipment that they have and I pay for the cutting, drill pressing or use of the router for work that I need done. I'm happy that they're there and applaud their work but THREE? THAT"S my beef and something doesn't add up.

  19. Alan has provided good insight in these posts (as usually he does, ). He is trying to state How things work with these "banks" and not the banks we normally deal with. It would be interesting if the OP stated what "bank" was collecting. Good posts, Alan.

  20. My buddy had a problem with an air conditiioner he bought on bimonthly payments from Famsa years ago. He had it installed in his girlfriend's house by cutting the wall and cementing it in. After they broke up he stopped paying. They came to repossess it. He came there to the house when she called him. He showed them the A/C and went to Famsa. The manager gave him a deal by deducting the late fees and reduced the amount owed because legally they could not remove it and leave a hole in the wall and it was almost near the end of the payment term. He paid it. It appears to me if when they legally [ it is in the contract when you sign up for their bank credit it will be repossessed if payments stop ] come to repossess items not fully paid for and you allowed them to go inside to see that the items are not there you won't be hearing from them again.

  21. Very few people here know enough about woodworking, teaching it, and the issues these students face to pass judgement and offer their advice on what the people volunteering time and talent “should” be doing. That won’t stop some of them from serving it up, of course.

  24. A good Novela would be of a person living in a foreign country. A Disgruntled unhappy person almost about everything. One who tells everyone how they should live and how things should be done around the community. but doesnt think of leaving. Act 1 Scene 1 (Nice day with just a light Breeze coming off the water. The couple has just finished their meal in a small Mexican Town) Wife: (speaking to her husband) "How was your dinner honey I am full but maybe I'll order another drink I could use one today" Husband: (Fishing around his pockets determining the amount of Foreign Currency he has because he paid his Maid,Gardener, & Pool Man today, Trying to get the Waiters attention) "Hey Senor, Senor, SENOR, how much is our bill?" Waiter: (Excusing himself from a another table placing their order) "Si Senor, Listo por cuenta?" Husband: (Still fumbling around with the currency adding it all up and even converting it in his head to his own currency to remember how cheap he is living here) "Speak English" Fade to couple walking to Car

  26. I went there for lunch today and had the chicken Gyro. It was so very good. Also had a long conversation with Horario about the concept of the restaurant, how they got started and why. They really want to give the diner a good experience with the food and the service. It's about being of service, not making tons of money and resting on their laurels. Their business sense is good and the future looks bright. I will return again and again to try more entrees.

  34. What a dumb, judgmental thing to say. Quite possibly he does know the difference. What is the matter with the people on this board. Never just accepting what someone has to say. Never just offering help. No, you drag out threads far beyond their limits with bullshit patronizing and speculation. You might as well be Fox "News". Clearly, this is an intimidation technique, and it has been used many, many, many times before around here.

  36. The DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion) rate has been around for many years worldwide but has just made its way Lakeside in the last year or so. Almost always, it is best to decline; to accept means you get a predetermined exchange rate plus up to a 10% charge for this privilege. In my experience, declining has every time been the more prudent option. Some people report that their ATM does not give the option to decline; however, it likely is still there and not identified. Push the button on the left (perhaps unlabeled) directly across the screen of the "accept" button (usually the bottom or next-to-bottom button at left.)

  39. I suspect that immigrants (legal or not) simply want jobs not free stuff. They want jobs and want to pay their taxes. Deadbeats come in all races, creeds and colours... and some of them are homegrown. And I won't get into the very wealthy people and corporations who go out of their way to avoid taxation.

  40. I believe the story, for now anyway. When we first moved to Ajijic over ten years ago, we received a series of letters and phone calls (inherited phone number from previous owner) from a collection agency which was after a boyfriend of the woman who owned the place twice removed. We ended up having to find the original debtor: HSBC, and spend time with the bank manager before the harrassment ceased. A real PITA. So yes, "stuff" happens here. Suggestion: We have one of those cameras connected to the doorbell which allows us to see who's there and communicate as well. Saves dealing with unwelcome visitors.

  41. Okay. That is an odd conclusion to come to but accusing another poster of lying is attacking someone for no reason except your random thought. Ferret is correct. Anyone who lives in Mexico and pays attention knows anything can happen and sooner or later does.

  44. No legal expert here. If it were me I would install a camera/doorbell/speaker system. I would only open my door to friends or those invited. That may not solve the immediate problem, but it may avoid further escalation of the conflict and provide you more time to resolve the core issues. Best of luck.

  46. About being legal in Mexico... Anybody feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but it is not a completely done deal yet. The procedure to legalize medical cannabis has started quite a while ago but it still seems to be going through the legal system. As far as buying it here, be careful as several of those local "sellers" dont know exactly what is in it. A few people got pretty sick after taking it. Rony

  47. I ordered CBD oil in June of 2015 from the U.S. It got here the third week in September of 2015. The point being that it CAN be ordered and received but I wish I'd chosen a courier for delivery. As far as I know, there is nobody TESTING for content in Mexico so I'm not sure how you get what you're ordering. It's a crap shoot.

  48. They should recognise that Labor laws have now been fundamentally changed. Unions, organisations, communes can now adopt members. This typically means some sort of work to learn programme - from apprentices to journeyperson for example. This way also ensures a quality "product" to employers, but also reduces the opportunity for union corruption. There will be a lot of wood manufacturers moving to Mexico. I can think of Storkcraft baby cribs for example. https://www.natlawreview.com/article/mexico-s-overhaul-federal-labor-laws-updates-timelines-employers
