Asheville Ivy

My father planted the ivy three years before he died

 he wanted their home to look fit -

just right

as it should have looked

to join the pear and apple trees

he had planted along the side

now the ivy is mine to admire

the pears and apples mine to eat

but what I long for is his answer

when I speak
